Tourism

• The Fredericton tourism industry established an all-time record with revenues of $220.4 million in 2008.  This figure is up 2.1% overall, outperforming most destinations in Eastern Canada and bucking stagnant growth patterns in the region.
• Fredericton's average hotel room rate increased to $88.65 in 2008 up from $85.67 in 2007.
• Fredericton's occupancy rate, as reported by operators to Fredericton Tourism, decreased slightly to 58% in 2008, as compared to 59% in 2007.
• Fredericton's three Visitor Information Centres served a total of 15,109 visitor parties in 2008 between May and October.
• Fredericton tied with Bathurst in the top two spots in the Province in terms of Provincial hotel occupancy, as reported by operators to the Provincial Tourism Department. Fredericton's average occupancy was 61% in 2008, which was 7% above the Provincial average of 54%. Moncton's occupancy was 60% and Saint John was 59%.
• It is forecast that the total overnight visitors in Fredericton increased by 4% to 592,000 visitors, compared to 586,000 in 2007.
• 374 bus tours spent one or more nights in Fredericton during the period of May-October, 2008, accounting for 8,735 hotel rooms sold to bus tours.
• Motorcoach tours were booked by 83 companies, 40 of which stayed more than 1 tour night.
• Fredericton hosted 1,030 events - local, regional, national and international with 57,632 delegates and 51,916 room nights.
• The Tourism Division of the City of Fredericton provided delegate kits to 160 meetings / conventions / sporting events by providing literature and tourism information.
